WETechAlliance Launches Tech Connect Summer Socials

Event Series Aimed at Activating Tech Community in City’s Core

WETechAlliance is thrilled to announce the launch of Tech Connect Summer Socials, a series of exciting summertime networking events in collaboration with the City of WindsorRocket Innovation Studio, the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Science & School of Computer ScienceSt. Clair College’s Zekelman School of Information Technology, and the Downtown Windsor BIA.

Since relaunching in 2022 with support from Invest WindsorEssex and the Government of Canada, WETechAlliance’s Tech Connect program has engaged thousands of students, professionals, and tech community members through various initiatives, offering opportunities to network, connect with tech employers, and connect to the growing Windsor-Essex tech community. This summer, Tech Connect continues its mission to foster collaboration and community connection with three dynamic events: a mural walk and art activation with WindsorEats and the artist Denial on July 17th, a “Tech Talk & Taps” fireside chat at Craft Heads Brewing Company featuring former Managing Editor at TechCrunch Matt Burns, Head of Network Development at OMERS Ventures and University of Windsor Alumni, Darrell Etherington, on July 31st, and a collaboration with Art Windsor-Essex for AWE at Night on August 15th, featuring an activation and discussion on envisioning downtown Windsor as a tech hub and exploring tech’s role in its revitalization.

The events are open to all members of the tech community, both downtown and beyond, including students, professionals, and members and organizations of the broader tech network. Attendance is free, but space is limited.

These events, held in the heart of downtown Windsor, align with the city’s “Strengthen the Core” downtown revitalization plan, showcasing how the tech community can play a pivotal role in the city’s transformation. The initiative responds to feedback from stakeholders, students, and companies who emphasized the importance of downtown activations. This series is a testament to the power of partnership between industry, academia, and the public sector, bringing together and supporting dozens of entrepreneurs, small businesses, artists, and organizations.
