Position Description: Office Custodian  
Reporting to: Facility & Event Manager 
Job Types: Part-time. 15-20 hours a week 
Pay: $20.00 per hour

Innovation Guelph (IG) is one of 17 Regional Innovation Centres in Ontario. A non-profit, IG celebrates more than 10 years of excellence providing a continuum of care for SMEs from pre-revenue Sstartups to scaling firms with up to $20 million in annual revenue. A deep mentor/industry specialist roster supports IG to in providing the expertise clients need when they need it. Wrapped around that direct mentorship are a variety of robust programs that can include education, networking, cohort-based acceleration, seed/pitch funds, and strategic introductions. Regional priority sectors IG focuses on include Agri-innovation, life sciences, cleantech, advanced manufacturing and supporting digital technologies.

Position Summary: The custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties to ensure that buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner.  

Primary Responsibilities:  
Clean office space and meeting rooms (both rooms). All surfaces are wiped down (Including desks, tables, and counter tops) 
Mop all floors 
Vacuum all carpeted areas 
Dust all furniture and fixtures, woodwork, windowpanes, and equipment.  
Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, phones, and fixtures.  
Replenish toilet tissue, paper towels and soap as needed.  
Clean all mirrors; empty all waste baskets and garbage cans. Place garbage in garbage/recycling bins.  
Clean entrances and exits including glass, doors, and hardware. Custodian will handle snow removal and salt of walkways in the winter. 
Keep outside area near exit and entrance debris free.  
Clean kitchen sinks, counters, and appliances; replenish paper towel, soap etc.  
Disinfect all high touch points (door handles, water coolers, light switches, etc.) 
Empty the dishwasher as needed 
Custodian will also handle light maintenance or repairs (changing of lights bulbs, building office furniture etc.) 
Perform seasonal cleaning tasks as required. Including: waxing floors, washing windows, building exterior cleaning, etc.  
Appropriate use of safety equipment at all times.  
Ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored in a safe and orderly manner. Work in cooperation with other maintenance staff to correct safety deficiencies.  
May assist with setting up in-house events. 
Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.  

Qualifications/Requirements:  
High school diploma, GED or equivalent, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities to perform the work.  
1-2 years’ experience preferred.  
Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products, and equipment.  
WHMIS Certification and knowledge of MSDS. Ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products.  
Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs.  
Ability to safely use cleaning and maintenance equipment.  
Ability to work with limited supervision.  
Must be punctual, trustworthy, and able to work independently to complete assigned tasks.  
Excellent verbal communication skills.  
Ability to work independently and follow instructions
