Vessl Prosthetics, a startup based in London, Ontario, has successfully completed its first funding round, securing an oversubscribed pre-seed investment that will accelerate the development of innovative prosthetic devices aimed at improving the lives of amputees. The funding will support the launch of the company's pioneering Isoform™ prosthetic system, designed specifically for amputees who have difficulty finding a comfortable fit with traditional prosthetic sockets.
The Isoform system uniquely adjusts to the user's limb volume changes throughout the day. Co-founder Oleksiy Zaika explains that the socket is fitted to a pressure threshold initially but then adapts its fit using the kinetic energy generated while walking, eliminating the need for the wearer to manually adjust the fit. This user-centric approach not only enhances the overall comfort and experience of the amputee but also streamlines the work of prosthetists.
CEO Sydney Robinson expressed gratitude for the support received from a network of investors, mentors, and organizations that have contributed to Vessl's promise and potential in the market. The pre-seed funding will facilitate revenue generation across four key sales channels in the U.S., as the company embarks on FDA registration and clinical research, establishing the groundwork for future growth.
Vessl's commitment to engaging directly with amputees and prosthetists has been pivotal since the company’s inception in June 2022. One of the early users of the Isoform system, Stevie, praised its time-saving capabilities, noting that the automatic tightening of the socket alleviates the need for constant adjustments with different ply socks, offering comfort throughout the day. Despite being an active athlete, Stevie noted a significant reduction in discomfort after using the Isoform compared to traditional sockets.
Vessl's journey from an idea to a viable company can be credited to the unwavering support of various partners and investors, including Spring, Accelerator Centre, VentureLAB, and many others. This strong network has played an essential role in paving the way for Vessl’s milestones, underscoring the company's potential for future success. Furthermore, Vessl participated in the Techstars Physical Health Fort Worth 2023 cohort, where it collaborated with other innovative companies under a comprehensive health-focused program.
Moving forward, Vessl aims to continuously enhance comfort, independence, and confidence for amputees. The pre-seed funding is just the beginning, as the company strives to deliver products and services that empower amputees and support their advocates in overcoming barriers.
Vessl Prosthetics is redefining the prosthetic industry with state-of-the-art technology that addresses the critical issue of poor socket fit, which affects over 50 million amputees globally. With a strong foundation in user-centered design and a commitment to solving real industry challenges, Vessl aims to minimize unnecessary clinic visits and streamline the fitting process. By removing barriers to access, Vessl is setting new benchmarks in adaptive volume management systems, creating a more seamless experience for both users and clinicians.
