On December 13, 2024, in London, Ontario, twelve companies were awarded non-repayable contributions of $20,000 each from the TechAlliance, in collaboration with the Boundless Accelerator, as part of the Government of Canada-supported i.d.e.a. Fund. This initiative is focused on promoting clean growth in southern Ontario by providing financial support and business advisory services to develop sustainable products, services, and technologies aimed at minimizing environmental impact and creating Canadian solutions for climate change.
The i.d.e.a. Fund, which has a total investment of $5.2 million facilitated by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), is administered by six Regional Innovation Centres (RICs): Boundless Accelerator, Innovate Niagara, Innovation Factory, Launch Lab, TechAlliance of Southwestern Ontario, and WETechAlliance. The fund is dedicated to supporting companies in redesigning their operations towards a more sustainable and circular economy while promoting diversity and inclusivity.
Christina Fox, CEO of TechAlliance, emphasized the fund's commitment to equity and sustainability and expressed excitement about the prospect of supporting innovative businesses. She highlighted the importance of pairing investment with industry expertise to assist these twelve companies in their pursuits to create impactful ventures. The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, reinforced the significance of southern Ontario in leading the green economy, asserting that the i.d.e.a. Fund plays a crucial role in helping businesses commercialize innovative green technologies for sustainable economic growth.
Peter Fragiskatos, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities, reiterated the government's commitment to clean growth firms, noting that these contributions would enhance job creation and bolster the local economy in southwestern Ontario as it transitions to a greener, more innovative economic framework.
The companies that received support in Cohort 3 include Carboform, Deep Breathe, Digits Rehab, Evelyn’s Sausage Kitchen, Everything Recycling, HaDa MedTech, Krop Farming Technologies Ltd., LimeSoft, Re:Pair Genomics, SomaDetect, Xatoms, and Zacstar.
Overall, the i.d.e.a. Fund is set to contribute a total of $1,460,000 to 73 companies in this cohort, part of a broader effort that has so far aided nearly 320 businesses. TechAlliance, a Regional Innovation Centre based in London, Ontario, aims to foster entrepreneurship and the commercialization of innovations, thereby enabling the establishment of globally competitive companies in the region.
