Tech Connect: Runeborn Edition Event Celebrates Local Gaming Innovation
On July 8th, Windsor’s tech and gaming communities unite for the "Tech Connect Meetup: Runeborn Edition," a celebration dedicated to local innovation and the official launch of Runeborn, the first PC video game developed by iDream Interactive, a Windsor-based studio. Hosted by WEtechAlliance and the St. Clair College Alumni Association, the event will take place at WindsorEats from 5:30 PM to 8 PM.
Runeborn, developed by St. Clair College alumni Jacob Duhaime and John Charette, symbolizes a full-circle moment for its creators, who first met in high school before teaming up in college. The duo founded iDream Interactive, which has since expanded to a team of twelve and produced over 15 games for corporate clients in North America. Duhaime credits his success to St. Clair College, stating, "The skills, mentorship, and community I found there were the foundation for everything we've built at iDream Interactive."
The video game blends roguelike deck-building mechanics with customizable slot-based systems, offering players a chance to engage more deeply with the gameplay. Duhaime describes Runeborn as "the culmination of years of passion, experimentation, and player feedback," emphasizing its modern twist on traditional genre elements. The game is currently featured in Steam Next Fest, an international showcase for upcoming PC games, which runs from June 9-16.
iDream Interactive's journey reflects the tech innovation spirit of Windsor-Essex. The studio is a graduate of WEtechAlliance's ScaleUP Accelerator program, where they transitioned from a service-oriented agency to a creator of original content and intellectual property. Adam Castle, Director of Venture Services & Partnerships at WEtechAlliance, highlights this transition as a significant marker of innovation, crucial to the local economy.
Attendees at the Tech Connect Meetup will have the chance to network with the iDream team, fellow gamers, and tech enthusiasts. The event will offer a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative process of Runeborn, showcasing how the ambitious game came to life. Guests can enjoy themed food and drink options, including cocktails and mocktails inspired by the game's rune colors, as well as a variety of food truck offerings.
The Tech Connect Meetups aim to foster connections among entrepreneurs, innovators, students, and other members of the tech community. Castle states, "Tech Connect has always been about spotlighting the talent and innovation shaping our region." The launch of Runeborn serves as a testament to Windsor-Essex's creative potential, encouraging aspiring developers and gamers to pursue their dreams locally.
Limited tickets for the Tech Connect Meetup are available at runeborn.eventbrite.ca, inviting all community members to be part of this exciting celebration of local talent and innovative spirit.
