tbk Donates $30,000 in Support of Women in Technology

tbk is doing its part to encourage more women to enter the field of technology. Over the next five years, tbk will cover the cost of five female students’ first-year tuition (two terms) in the Interactive Media Design (IMD) program at Fanshawe College. This sponsorship is valued at approximately $6,000 annually for a total of ~$30,000 in corporate giving.

“The decision to continue offering tbk’s Women in Tech Scholarship was an easy one,” says Kylie Maisonneuve, Principal and Director of Accounts at tbk. “It promotes gender equality in our industry and aligns with our agency’s core values. This scholarship will help educate the next generation of female talent, empowering them to shape what comes next in software development.”

Regrettably, gender inequality still persists within the workforce—specifically within the IT industry.

74% of women in tech jobs say they have experienced gender discrimination

0% statistical chance that a woman (up against three male candidates) will be offered the job.

tbk is committed to changing that narrative.

66% of tbk is female owned

50% of tbk is female managed

51% of tbk’s overall staff is female

Fanshawe College’s IMD program focuses on digital media design, development, and production. It teaches students web design, coding, programming, 3D animation, and interactive media management. Students learn how to develop usable, media-rich sites and applications using industry-standard tools from companies such as Adobe, Maxon, as well as open-source technologies for web application development.

“tbk’s generous scholarship helps young women who perhaps couldn’t afford this type of education,” says Michelle Giroux, Associate Dean at Fanshawe College. “By easing the financial considerations of pursuing a career in digital marketing, more females are encouraged to enter the field. We couldn’t be prouder to partner with tbk on this initiative.”

To be eligible for tbk’s Women in Tech Scholarship, candidates must be a female resident of Canada who has:

  • Applied for entry into Fanshawe College’s IMD program
  • Achieved an average of 85% or more in their final year of high school
  • Demonstrated participation in at least one technology project or activity during high school

It is tbk’s hope that this sponsorship gift inspires many more women to pursue a career path in technology.
