Report: Roadmap to 2050: Canada’s Semiconductor Action Plan

As the global chip shortage continues to make headlines around the world and impact supply chain, production, and manufacturing in Canada, the time for action is now. Canada’s Semiconductor Council has published its industry report and recommendations, Roadmap to 2050: Canada’s Semiconductor Action Plan. Launched in May 2021, Canada’s Semiconductor Council is an independent, industry-led national coalition led by globally-recognized Canadian founders, business leaders, chip manufacturers, and investors. ventureLAB is the founding ecosystem member of Canada’s Semiconductor Council. The Council interviewed over 100 industry stakeholders from coast-to-coast to gain insights into Canada’s semiconductor industry that inform the report published today. The action plan centres on four overarching goals to address an urgent need:

  1. Strengthen and Diversify the Supply Chain
  2. Develop Onshore Manufacturing
  3. Establish a Unique Specialization and Brand for Canada
  4. Foster Innovation and Support Market Development
