OCAS announces new President and CEO

GUELPH, Ontario (April 22, 2022) – Marc Provencher has been named the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS), effective on May 2, 2022.

The appointment was announced by St. Lawrence College President Glenn Vollebregt, OCAS’ Chair.

“Few postsecondary educational services are as essential as OCAS, because it is the chief conduit for prospective students when they are taking their first step to enter the college system,” Vollebregt said. “In addition to processing their preliminary application, it allows them to explore career opportunities and programs of studies, provides details about the colleges that offer those specific programs, and highlights general information about the costs and other considerations associated with postsecondary education.”

Marc assumes the CEO position at an exciting time in OCAS’ history,” Vollebregt noted. “Ontario college education is proving to be more popular than ever, with exponentially expanding international enrolment and solid domestic enrolment, both of which will only increase as the 24 schools add degree-level programs during the next few years (an opportunity authorized by the provincial government in mid-April). The application service will have to – and I’m sure will – keep pace with that growth.”

Marc Provencher is moving up from his current position as the Chief Information Officer at OCAS which he started in 2013. Previous to that, Marc held various positions at BlackBerry, his most recent was as the Director of Blackberry Handheld Applications.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guelph.

“I’m excited to assume this role with OCAS at a time when the Ontario college system is poised for significant new growth,” said Marc Provencher. “The first step in making postsecondary education accessible is to ensure that the application process is friendly, flexible and fair. We’re looking to enhance all of those qualities within OCAS in the coming weeks and months.”

OCAS is a non-profit corporation created and overseen by Ontario’s two dozen public colleges to centralize application services. Its website is www.ocas.ca.
