NORCAT, the global leader in skilled labour training and development, is pleased to announce the launch of the Common Core Graduate Referral Program designed to help build Ontario’s future mining workforce. This new referral program will allow former graduates of NORCAT’s Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core program who completed the program between January 2015 and January 2022 to receive $250 for each prospective trainee they refer to the program. *

Since its inception, NORCAT’s Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core program has educated, trained and prepared thousands of workers from around the world to have safe, productive and lucrative careers in the mining industry. Additionally, NORCAT is the ONLY non-profit skilled labour training and development organization in the world that owns an operating mine , the NORCAT Underground Centre, dedicated to providing integrated, hands-on and practical training programs for both new and existing miners.Over the past few years, NORCAT has integrated a series of technology-enabled blended learning programs, including eLearning, virtual reality, equipment simulation and in-the-field competency validation on select pieces of mining equipment into the flagship Underground Hard Rock Common Core program, including the award-winning virtual reality pre-operational circle check training program.

Ontario’s mining sector currently employs over 27,000 workers, of which over 13,000 work in underground mines. The Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR), who publishes an annual report on Canada's mining labour market, predicts that by 2026, the Canadian mining industry will need to fill over 47,000 mining jobs across the country. NORCAT's Common Core Graduate Referral Program intends to address this labour shortage by providing incentives for current miners and mine workers to encourage friends and family members to take the first step towards a new career by enrolling in the Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core program, a mandatory prerequisite for underground mining jobs in Ontario.
