“The help and support that Haltech provided really helped formalize that maturation process to move the company from that very early startup stage, more into a company that’s that’s focused on implementing and developing the technology”
Andrew Lee | President & Co-founder, Innovia GEO
“I’m Andrew Lee, President and Co-founder of Innovia GEO, and the company was founded in 2018. The company is focused on decarbonizing the heating and cooling of buildings and homes by developing innovative geothermal heating and cooling technologies.”
“I grew up in an entrepreneurial household. My father had his own business in the produce industry for over 20 years, so I kind of grew up in that environment. So I think for me, as I started my career in the back of my head, there was always an interest to try to go out on my own and start a business.”
“When I discovered Haltech I was just transitioning, so I was moving from Toronto and moving out to the Halton region. And so it was a great opportunity for me to to have a way to connect with the community that I didn’t have established roots with I looked up different regional innovation centres, and Haltech was the one that popped to the top of the list.
It was a really quick and sort of seamless process where I just reached out at the time and the coordinator was very quick to respond and I had a first introduction and visit to Haltech, and I kind of knew immediately that this was a place I’d like to be able to work in. And the support and all the staff has been really great since then.”
“Something that Haltech helped me with when I first joined was connecting me with mentors and my background is a technical background. There was a series of events and mentors that had experience more in marketing and sales. So those are areas that I didn’t have sort of direct educational training. And that was a tremendous help to me to look at problems in the light of marketing and sales as opposed to strictly technical.”
“More recently, we are a recipient of the i.d.e.a. Fund grant and – a program run by some of the Regional Innovation Centres to help support small startups and small businesses in the environmental cleantech space, which is where we’re a part of.
And that’s been a tremendous support for us. It’s just getting started, and we’re really excited to be able to use that support to help us advance and develop our technology and business.”
“It’s very exciting [we] that recently the got one of the LaunchPad offices at TechPlace. So we’re very excited.
We just moved in and it’s been great to be able to interact with the other companies within TechPlace and Haltech.
Something else that I think is very important at Haltech was just the space here at TechPlace and the community that is Haltech. So that’s been invaluable in terms of providing support, guidance, mentorship.”
“The role that Haltech played in my startup journey I think would be a role of helping us mature as a company. The help and support that Haltech provided really helped formalize that maturation process to move the company from that very early startup stage, more into a company that’s that’s focused on implementing and developing the technology and taking the company to the next stage.”
“For any other entrepreneurs out there that are thinking of joining Haltech, I would say don’t hesitate. It’s a welcoming community full of support and a strong, genuine desire from everyone in the organization to help see you along the journey and with a desire to see you be successful.
So I’d say sign up right away.”
