Expanding Horizons: WEtech’s Flagship Program Launches into Its Ninth Year

WEtechAlliance has announced the opening of applications for the ninth cohort of its ScaleUP Accelerator, an award-winning program aimed at helping tech and innovation-based companies achieve sustainable growth. This year’s accelerator has expanded reach, made possible by a renewed commitment from Libro Credit Union and a partnership with Communitech, supported by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

The ScaleUP Accelerator is a six-month intensive program designed to assist companies ready for growth. It now extends its benefits to a broader array of companies across Southwestern Ontario, particularly along the 401 corridor. The initiative collaborates with Communitech and partners such as Accelerator Centre, Conestoga College, and MACcelerate. This expansion allows for a greater support network for companies in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, promoting innovation in sectors such as municipal, industrial, logistics, and agriculture.

Adam Castle, WEtech's Director of Venture Services and Partnerships, emphasizes the valuable opportunities available to innovators in these regions, highlighting their potential to make a meaningful, long-term impact. The program now accepts applications from companies located in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent and those affiliated with its Scale-Up Platform partners.

Christina Wood, Vice President of Founder Programs at Communitech, adds that the partnership seeks to provide founders with better growth opportunities across regions and sectors. By connecting Waterloo Region and Windsor-Essex, they aim to enhance support systems that allow entrepreneurs to thrive confidently.

The program offers numerous resources to participants:

- 30 hours of hands-on engagement with expert Growth Coaches.
- Strategic support in key areas such as product development, customer acquisition, financial strategy, and leadership.
- An opportunity to present at a final Showcase event.
- A chance to compete for a grand prize of $20,000.

Lori Atkinson, Regional Manager at Libro Credit Union, expresses enthusiasm for the growth of the ScaleUP program, noting that supporting local businesses contributes to community prosperity. The economic and social impact of this support is significant, as it fosters bold and creative solutions in the region's entrepreneurial landscape.

To date, the ScaleUP Accelerator has demonstrated considerable impact, having supported 38 companies from Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, resulting in the launch of 170 new products and services, the creation of 206 jobs, and the generation of over $39 million in new revenue.

The deadline for applications for the ninth cohort is 11:59 PM on September 7, 2025. Interested applicants can find more information and register for an information session on the WEtechAlliance website.

In summary, the ScaleUP Accelerator exemplifies a collaborative effort to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship across Southwestern Ontario, positioning the region as a pivotal hub for tech-driven growth and economic development. Through strategic partnerships and comprehensive support, the program aims to empower startups to overcome challenges and seize market opportunities, fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability.
