On June 25, 2025, MondouxRollins Partners Inc., an executive search and human capital advisory firm, revealed the 2025 winners of Canada’s Best Private Boards program. The recognition event will take place on November 4 in Toronto as part of the Canada’s Best Private Boards Summit and Awards.

Jennifer Mondoux, Managing Partner and CEO of MondouxRollins, emphasized the importance of governance in enhancing the performance of private companies. The program aims to honor exemplary governance practices that contribute to private companies' success and to foster a network of executive leaders, investors, board members, and service providers.

Winners Overview

The awards are divided into two primary categories: Best Advisory Boards and Best Fiduciary Boards.

  • BFL CANADA: Best Employee-Owned Advisory Board (Over 1,000 Employees)

Best Fiduciary Boards:

  • Minto Group: Best Family Business Fiduciary Board (Over 1,000 Employees)
  • Nicola Wealth: Best Family Business Fiduciary Board (Under 1,000 Employees)
  • VMAC Global Technologies Inc.: Best Employee-Owned Fiduciary Board
  • Hokanson Capital Inc.: Best Family Office Fiduciary Board
  • Soul Foods Group: Best Investor-Backed Fiduciary Board
  • Plantaform: Best Emerging Investor-Backed Fiduciary Board

The Trailblazer Award is another highlight of the program, recognizing exceptional contributions made by individuals in the private company landscape. The 2025 Trailblazers include Lisa Melchior (Founder and Managing Partner, VERTU Capital), and Roger Greenberg (Executive Chairman, Minto Group). Special category awards include the Emerging Trailblazer given to Erik Brien-Wright (Partner, Mid-Market Growth Capital, EDC) and the Mission-Driven Trailblazer Award to co-founders Julia Elvidge, Jennifer Francis, and Sonya Shorey (SheBoot).

Jennifer Mondoux expressed pride in the program's winners, noting the pivotal role that leadership plays in the effectiveness of private companies. She highlighted the commitment to enhancing private company governance as a notable trend that drives organizational performance.

Selection Process and Committee Appreciation

The nominations were submitted in the spring, followed by evaluation from an independent 11-member voting committee that convened in June. Bill McLean, Partner at Richter (Presenting Sponsor) and Vice Chair of Canada’s Best Private Boards, stressed that impactful boards are essential for long-term success in the private sector.
