Life Sciences Ontario (LSO) has announced the recipients of the 2025 LSO Awards, an event that honors excellence and innovation in the life sciences sector. Now in its 22nd year, the LSO Awards continue to recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations throughout Ontario's life sciences field, celebrating those who have significantly furthered the sector’s growth and development. The awards encompass various achievements, from groundbreaking research and ecosystem development that promotes collaboration among innovators to the recognition of companies that have played a role in the province’s economic advancement.

This year’s recipients are acknowledged for their diverse contributions to the life sciences landscape in Ontario, with awards spanning several key categories:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. Janet Rossant was awarded for her extensive contributions as President and Scientific Director of the Gairdner Foundation, as well as her roles as Senior Scientist Emeritus at SickKids and University Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto. Dr. Rossant's pioneering research has greatly advanced scientific understanding in her field.

  • Community Impact Award: This honor was given to Alex Muggah, Director of the Synapse Life Science Consortium, highlighting his impactful efforts in fostering collaboration within the life sciences community.

  • Leadership Award: The award went to OBIO® for its significant role in advocating for the life sciences industry and driving initiatives that benefit Ontario’s healthcare landscape.

  • Life Science Company of the Year Award: Trudell Medical Limited received this award for its outstanding achievements and contributions in the medical device manufacturing sector over nearly a century.

  • Emerging Company of the Year Award: Zucara Therapeutics Inc. was recognized for its innovative approaches and promising solutions in diabetes care.

  • Volunteer Awards: Two individuals, Marko Perovic, Associate Director of Public Affairs at Novo Nordisk, and Simonne Rauch, a Doctor of Pharmacy student at the University of Toronto and a past LSO scholarship recipient, were honored for their volunteer contributions to the life sciences community.
