Highlights from the 4th Annual HardTech Summit

The 4th Annual HardTech Summit, organized by ventureLAB, took place at the Toronto Marriott Markham, attracting over 1,100 participants. The event, hosted by CBC journalist Manjula Selvarajah, began with opening remarks from ventureLAB CEO Hugh Chow, who set a positive tone for discussions around Canada’s future in hardtech. A highlight of the day was a fireside chat featuring Chow and Dick Thurston, the Chairman and CEO of Hudson Valley FastFab, which provided valuable insights into global manufacturing and semiconductor opportunities.

For the first time, the summit featured a side stage dedicated to more detailed discussions. Another panel titled “Fueling Hardtech Growth: Where is Canada’s Competitive Edge?” evaluated strategies to elevate Canada’s status in the global market. Additionally, sessions such as “The Power of People: How Talent Can Help Bridge the Canadian Productivity Gap” addressed workforce challenges, while “Commanding Attention: Practical Communications Tools for HardTech” offered actionable insights into effective storytelling in the competitive hardtech sphere.

The summit also welcomed various influential speakers, including Dr. Arvind Gupta from the University of Toronto, Mona Enghanian of the Ontario Centre of Innovation, Siri Agrell, CEO of BetaKit, and Conway Fraser, Managing Director of Fraser Torosay, among others. Their contributions, delivered through various formats like panels and fireside chats, enriched the discussions around Canada's competitive strengths in the hardtech sector and outlined the future path forward.

Exhibition booths showcasing more than 30 pioneering advancements in hardware, medtech, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors were also a significant feature of the event.
