6th annual Future of Transportation and Mobility Series offers insightful glimpse into electrified transportation investment trends

HAMILTON, ONTARIO, November 1, 2023 – The sixth annual Future of Transportation and Mobility Series (FTMS) concluded after a morning of speakers and networking, drawing hundreds of innovators and stakeholders in transportation and mobility sector. Hosted by the Centre for Integrated Transportation and Mobility (CITM), Durham Regional Technology Development Site (DRTDS), and Windsor-Essex RTDS, and supported by Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), this year’s FTMS theme was, “Investments Driving Connected and Electrified Transportation”.

Now in its sixth installment, FTMS offered attendees a forward-looking investment perspective on the trajectory of connected transportation and the electrification of vehicles. Topics at this year’s conference included insights on investment trends, multi-modal goods movement, interconnected vehicles, and the impact of electrified municipal transportation on infrastructure. 

 “Our government is transforming our auto sector and creating the conditions for global companies to invest and grow, with confidence – and in the last three years alone, Ontario has attracted over $27 billion in automotive and EV battery investments,” said Vic Fedeli, Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Events like the Future of Transportation and Mobility Series help promote the collaboration and knowledge sharing that makes our automotive sector cutting-edge and dynamic.”

Reflecting on the success of the event, Richard Dunda, Director at CITM, said, “Each year, FTMS highlights the tools and resources available for startups in the smart and electrified transportation innovation and technology sector. We are at the beginning of a mobility revolution, and uncovering public and private investment priorities plays a crucial role in driving the future of transportation forward.” 

Attendees heard from expert speakers from various prominent organizations within the smart, connected, and electrified transportation ecosystem such as Linamar Corporation, Lion Electric, Magna International, OMERS Ventures, Parsons Corporation, ETTRACTIVE Inc., and Venture Ontario. FTMS also featured a keynote speaker presentation from Danies Lee – CEO, NextStar Energy Inc. Stelantis and LG Energy Solution.
