Stratus Agro Takes Home $20,000 Grand Prize in ScaleUP Cohort 9

On the evening of October 24, nine high-growth companies showcased their innovations and competitive spirit at WEtech Alliance’s ScaleUP Showcase & Pitch Competition, vying for a $20,000 top prize. This event featured the ninth cohort graduating from the ScaleUP Accelerator, an initiative supported by Libro Credit Union, Communitech, FedDev Ontario, and the Government of Ontario. The accelerator program is designed to provide growth coaching, strategic insights, entrepreneurial education, networking opportunities, and financial backing to help regional entrepreneurs scale their businesses.

Yvonne Pilon, President & CEO of WEtech Alliance, remarked on the event's success, highlighting its expansion in terms of participant numbers and geographic reach. The showcase attracted 200 guests to the Augustus Ballroom at Caesars Windsor, emphasizing the growing support for entrepreneurs in Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and throughout Ontario. An added feature was the $2,500 People’s Choice Award, powered by Baker Tilly, allowing attendees to participate in the event.

The competition was structured similarly to the "Dragon’s Den," where each of the nine companies pitched for eight minutes. Stratus Agro, representing the agtech sector, clinched the $20,000 grand prize, while TransitRewards.ca won the People’s Choice Award. Colby Wu of Stratus Agro shared that the win reflects the potential for significant contributions to agriculture through world-class innovation made possible by the support from Libro Credit Union.

This year's ScaleUP program showcased expanded inclusivity by welcoming three companies from outside the Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent areas. They were recognized for their commitment to enriching the local economy. Lori Atkinson, Regional Manager for Libro Credit Union, emphasized the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs for community prosperity while acknowledging the outstanding potential displayed by this cohort.

The showcase was not just about competition; it also provided opportunities for networking and relationship-building among participants, regional entrepreneurs, and WEtech’s growth coaches. Companies in the graduating ScaleUP Cohort 9 included Adopli AI, Chocovate Labs, Decades Development, Estare, JSB Innovations, Quotograph, and USpeak, exhibiting a rich variety of innovation and entrepreneurism.

Overall, the event signified a hallmark moment for the ScaleUP Accelerator and its mission to cultivate entrepreneurial success in the region. The highlight was a powerful display of creativity, community support, and ambition, signaling a promising future for the entrepreneurs involved.
