Introducing the Landing Pad Accelerator Program: Get to Know the Cohort

The Spark Centre’s Landing Pad Accelerator Program is a pivotal initiative connecting early-stage ventures focused on addressing real-world challenges through innovative solutions. This spring’s cohort showcases diverse founders dedicated to advancing fields such as advanced materials and emerging technologies, aiming to create impactful innovations. The program is designed to guide these ventures through strategy refinement, momentum building, and progression towards commercialization, with robust support from experts, community strategists, and ecosystem resources.

A notable emphasis is placed on supporting female-led and newcomer-founded ventures. Among the cohort highlights are four innovative startups:

  1. NanoRock: Founded by Kaka Zhang and Shuaishuai Huang, this company is revolutionizing surface protection with a patented coating technology that merges the hardness of glass and the flexibility of polymers. Traditional coatings either crack under stress or degrade quickly. NanoRock's solution offers a unique balance of scratch resistance, structural integrity, and self-cleaning capabilities. This innovation has drawn interest from significant players in the foldable smartphone market, indicating strong commercial potential as the company gears up to bring its product to market.

  2. HOLA! (Hispanic Open Language Academy): Led by Patricia Dominguez, HOLA is transforming Spanish language learning beyond conventional classroom settings. By combining technology with cultural experiences, it seeks to create immersive and relatable language learning environments. The initiative is pursuing digital experiences that foster engagement and adapt to diverse learning needs. Participating in the LPAP provides HOLA with essential mentorship to refine its product and establish go-to-market strategies.

  3. Baby Stop App: Designed by Mehreen Akhter, this location discovery app addresses the needs of parents with young children in the Greater Toronto Area. It helps families identify vetted, child-friendly spots—like restaurants and play areas—filtered by essential amenities for parents, such as changing tables and stroller accessibility. The app aims to alleviate the stress of planning outings with young children by providing a curated, reliable resource.

  4. Signavite: Based in Brockville, Ontario, this healthcare tech venture, founded by Dr. Lydia Lo, focuses on improving patient access to care through enhancements in the referral process. By leveraging AI, Signavite aims to clarify care pathways, making healthcare navigation easier and more efficient. The company is currently advancing its product development and validation while seeking to contribute positively to the healthcare system through increased coordination and usability of care services.
