The Made Smarter Innovation cohort, a partnership between MaRS and Innovate UK, focuses on supporting U.K. startups that are leveraging digital technologies to enhance manufacturing processes. Amid labor shortages, supply chain disruptions, and increased regulatory expectations, these startups utilize innovations like AI, machine learning, 3D printing, and augmented reality to transform traditional manufacturing practices. The six-month program is designed to provide tailored workshops, networking opportunities, and resources to assist these companies in entering the North American market.

Among the eight notable startups are:

1. Bloc Digital: Founded by Keith Cox and Chris Hotham, Bloc Digital uses 3D modeling and CGI to create engineering visuals for companies, helping them modernize operations. Their offerings include virtual reality training programs and AI-driven machine monitoring. The company has grown from a small team to over 70 employees, expanding its presence in defense and manufacturing sectors.

2. Connective AI: Founded by Nishant Raj, this Warrington-based startup developed MyCluster, a platform that connects companies across various sectors to address supply chain gaps using AI-driven data mapping. Over 600 manufacturing organizations utilize its platform to collaborate and identify opportunities.

3. Deep.Meta: Osas Omoigiade established Deep.Meta to enhance sustainability in steel manufacturing. The company's machine learning tools optimize energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions during production processes. Founded in London, Deep.Meta has achieved significant processing capacity growth within a short period of securing substantial venture funding.

4. Holdson: Aaron Holt and Neil Dickinson, who initially worked at an engine manufacturer, developed a patented electroform polishing method for complex metal parts. This technology is applied across industries like aerospace and automotive, significantly reducing carbon emissions. The company has raised substantial seed funding and established partnerships within the defense sector.

5. J-Wadel Solutions: Founded by Johnson Oluwadele, this startup focuses on training the next generation of manufacturers through augmented reality technology. Their AI-assisted holographic guide offers hands-free instructions to workers, addressing labor shortages in industries such as aviation while enhancing productivity. The company has gained traction in various accelerator programs.

8. Xworks AI: Led by Electra Coutsoftides, Xworks AI created digital product passports to track the lifecycle of recycled materials. The company's approach incentivizes responsible recycling and has garnered a significant network of businesses committed to improving material accountability. They are poised to launch Carbonmark, connecting carbon credit buyers with environmental projects.
