Clinic Alum Secures Mitacs Funding to Accelerate NerView’s Growth

The journey from a laboratory concept to a market-ready medical device is notoriously difficult, yet NerView Surgical is navigating this path with remarkable velocity. Led by Mann Parikh, a standout innovator from McMaster University and The Clinic, NerView is redefining precision in neurosurgery. With over $140,000 in funding secured within the last year, the startup is transitioning from prototype testing to the threshold of clinical trials.

A Year of Strategic Funding Wins

Success in the highly regulated world of neurotechnology requires more than just a good idea; it requires capital and validation. Parikh’s momentum surged in 2025 through a series of high-stakes competitive wins:

  • Ontario Brain Institute (OBI) NERVE Program: After a persistent second application, Parikh secured $100,000, a milestone that validates NerView’s technical foundation.

  • Techtoberfest 2025: Parikh captured the top spot among a field of elite Ontario founders, earning a $10,000 prize.

  • Mitacs Accelerate Entrepreneur: Most recently, NerView received $30,000 in matching funds to support a four-month internship aimed at accelerating market readiness.

These wins represent more than just financial support; they serve as critical external verification of NerView’s potential to disrupt the surgical sector.

Bridging the Gap: The Role of "The Clinic"

Parikh credits his success to the structured support of The Clinic’s Residency program and the Health Innovation Bootcamp. For many medtech founders, the "valley of death" between research and commercialization is where ideas fail. The Clinic provides the "safe space" needed to iterate.

“The Residency built my foundation in problem framing, customer discovery, and regulatory literacy,” Parikh explains. This curriculum is vital for healthcare startups, where understanding regulatory pathways and clinical validation is just as important as the technology itself.

Scaling the Impact: Mitacs and Clinical Translation

The partnership with Mitacs Accelerate Entrepreneur marks a new chapter for NerView. This national program connects research talent with real-world industrial challenges, providing $15,000 per four-month internship. For NerView, this means the ability to scale human capital while maintaining a lean operational footprint.

Currently, the company is moving from fifth-generation prototype testing on cadavers toward first-in-human clinical trials. This transition involves:

  1. Iterative Design: Incorporating direct feedback from surgeons and clinical partners.

  2. Evidence Generation: Building the robust data sets required for regulatory approval.

  3. Market Access: Developing a strategy to integrate NerView’s technology into existing surgical workflows.

The Entrepreneurial Blueprint: Persistence Over Perfection

Beyond his technical work, Parikh is a student in the Master of Biomedical Innovation program at the Marnix E. Heersink School. His advice to the next generation of innovators is rooted in persistence: "Don’t wait until everything feels perfect to apply."

By leveraging the ecosystem provided by McMaster University, The Clinic, and national bodies like Mitacs, NerView Surgical is proving that with the right combination of academic rigor and entrepreneurial grit, the future of neurosurgery can be built in Canada.
